Ghillie Dhu Furniture - Designer and Maker

"I am particularly interested in our celtic and norse maritime heritage and the stories that go along with it. Coincidentally, while at furniture making school I found a set of very old but unused Lewis chessmen moulds that had been given to me as a boy and decided after all these years  to start using them to cast a small number of Lewis chesssets every year. I exhibit and sell them in various galleries around Scotland.

Currently  "Touched by Scotland" at Oyne  in Aberdeenshire have an exhibition of my work. I maintain a stock of very attractive scottish hardwoods and can produce an exclusive  gift for a special occassion. Contact me if you would like to commission an individual  Ghillie Dhu Lewis chessset or games table for someone special. Timber selections can be varied to suit the occassion.

Every board is unique and  signed. It comes with a signature Ghillie Dhu Crate filled with freshly planed pine shavings for keeping the chessmen safe. Every crate is slightly different and can be tailored to suit any special requirments. I make them with clinker built sides to reference the sea journey and use copper rivets, copper tacks and rope handles to add detail.

Games tables come in a variety of options with drawers either concealed or visible. Optional hidden wooden lock mechanisms can be built in to add extra compexity to the piece.
